Statement

Drippy blasts of ink, created with a simple atomizer, combine with romanticized vistas drawn in silverpoint and ballpoint pen to form the Splat Landscapes. A continuing interest in the 19th Century concept of Manifest Destiny and its philosophy of cultural expansion can be seen in the use of bold, apparently uncontrolled splats. In contrast, delicately articulated lakes and mountains acknowledge the movement’s philosophical counterpart Transcendentalism, and its nature-friendly view of the world.
