Glitter
Statement
The Glitter Rorschachs evolved from the process that I use to refill containers. When folding paper to channel the glitter into a container, I noticed how Rorschach-esque shapes formed along the crease. The idea of mimicking Rorschach test blots in a material that we often associate with holidays, decoration and Martha Stewart, seemed appropriate for images that are used as a diagnostic tool to evaluate emotional functioning. The Glitter Rorschach pieces are fabricated from multiple assembled glitter blots, and range in scale from small to wall sized. Glitter Boxes represent my effort to capture the zeitgeist of glitter. I came to realize the power of isolated glitter surfaces and began making objects that allowed the material to function without an image. Glitter Boxes address the relationship between the color of the painted box and its glitter face; viewed in proper lighting, each piece is surrounded by a halo of reflected color on the wall. Presented in a group, the Glitter Boxes form a constellation of unique, though related works.
